Student experience exchange
Start date: Nov 1, 2010,

International students are generally very positive about their experiences abroad and are full of stories and advice for their friends. Moreover, many students - including Erasmus exchange students - are obliged to write a report on their mobility period. Sharing these experiences on a European level have a great effect on stimulating other students as well as informing them on their international Study-Choice. For this, a centralised European website will be launched: StudyExperiences.eu. The website will also contain a survey, identifying students key (dis)incentives to mobility, resulting in a report for policy makers on European mobility programmes.Mobility in European Higher Education is growing in absolute terms. An important driver is the word of mouth promotion. However, there is a lot of potential in increasing awareness and availability of information on studying abroad. Especially for personalised information on topics such as living costs, accommodation, admission procedures, general country and cultural information. This need is often very specific and requires local advice. At the same time, Europe has a related need: to create a single European educational brand, a unified European message and one central information source on its higher education opportunities. This project combines local and personalised advice with a broad and unified European message in an accessible and central information source. To ensure high exposure to prospective students and optimise its value in the study choice process, the website will be integrated with a set of widely embraced study information websites that provide an overview of European study opportunities (BachelorsPortal.eu, MastersPortal.eu and PhDportal.eu).Study-seekers express a large need for local and personal information on their study opportunities in Europe. First-hand experiences of international students form a very reliable and independent source of information. Their enthusiasm, local advice and insights will convince prospective students of Europe s attractiveness and help them to overcome the practical barriers of studying in Europe. This will help promoting European Higher Education, increase student mobility and as well as the quality of the mobility periods.
