Strengthening Sub-Saharan youth career paths
Start date: Mar 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project focuses on youth workers career guidance/education competences improvement seeking to solve huge problems faced in developing countries, namely Sub-Saharan Africa regions. This project scope and challenge was selected on purpose. Applicant has necessary experience and knowledge, project Partners are eager to improve their competences and expend their work field. All parties acknowledge the necessity of career guidance/education services, as they are still are not developed and implemented in Africa. Also the statistics shows, that to provide high quality career guidance/education services for local youth is very important as these countries face high youth unemployment rate. One of the main factors, why the career guidance/education services have not been provided in Sub-Saharan Africa is the general lack of professionally trained experts at virtually all levels: community development workers, programme facilitators and coordinators, planners, materials developers, writers, trainers, lecturers and in particular researchers. Only a very small number of non-governmental adult education initiatives are operating, if at all, at community or village level only. Also it has to be outlined that the training concentrates only on technical know-how and it does not prepare youth for economic activities or enable trainees to open a business. Training materials such as tools, working instruments and raw materials are available in insufficient quantities only, and learning materials are virtually absent. The project proposal main aim is to increase and develop youth workers competences in Career Guidance/education services for underprivileged youth in Sub-Saharan Africa regions. The project aim will be achieved through cooperation and exchanges in the field of youth between Lithuania and Sub-Saharan Africa regions (Ghana, Uganda and Kenya). The main project objectives, allowing to achieve project aim are:• To build capacity of at least 21 youth workers, youth organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa in the field of career guidance/education (CGE) and increase quality of work in mentioned field in participating countries through developed CGE methodologies and tools; • To establish 3 Career Centres in Partner countries for quality CGE services for underprivileged youth; • To transfer and exchange methodologies and tools on CGE among participating organizations; • To promote active participation and non-formal learning within EU and Africa during 45 career guidance/education sessions for local youth. Directly in youth workers mobilities, capacity building activities involvement of people with fewer opportunities is not foreseen. However in other activities (led by youth workers) there will be participants with fewer opportunities involved. These participants will be involved in activities carried out in Ghana, Uganda and Kenya.
