"Strategie dla przyszłości - podnoszenie kompetencji kadry edukacji dorosłych Muzeum Narodowego w Krakowie".
Start date: Jun 15, 2016, End date: Oct 14, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The National Museum in Krakow is an authority in the field of Polish art. It establishes standards for dialogue on culture and national heritage trying at the same time to follow and implement trends in museum education developed in the world’s museums. However, the Museum should not be treated as a “Temple” – a temple of art or place of memory, the Museum now becomes a “Forum”. Therefore, its role in social life is changing. Modern Museums are not only places of education on art and culture. The key role of museum activity is to improve the social capital by development of cultural and civic education. The National Museum in Krakow is now in the phase of organizational changes. With regard to the changes in the management structure and appointment of a new director, the planned development paths of this institution are being verified. The Museum Development Strategy for years 2014–2020 is being updated and supplemented by new guidelines and assumptions. The most important long-term advantages for the development of the institution pursued by this project are as follows: - Development and implementation of a new, interdisciplinary educational offer; - Improvement of the National Museum in Krakow brand in the European network of museums; - Preparation of the offer for developing digital society; - Reorganisation of upskilling system for human resources of the Museum; - Improvement of work quality of the institution. The project "Strategies for the Future – increasing competences of education personnel for adults of the National Museum in Krakow" is the first mobility project within the Erasmus+ program. 14 people will take part in the project, while the biggest group of participants includes persons working at the newly established Strategy, Development and Communication Division. These are employees of Section of Education, New Media or Promotion. Moreover, the representatives of the Museum’s management take part in the project. Two types of mobility are planned: job shadowing (8 persons) and participation in courses/trainings (6 persons). The project’s partners are the prestigious European cultural institutions: Palais des Beaux-Arts – BOZAR, Belgium, Stichting Het Rijksmuseum, Holland, Van Abbemuseum, Holland. We also co-operate with the experienced institutions from Portugal (Centro Europeu de Línguas, Lda.) and organisers of courses from Germany (Interpret Europe – European Association for Heritage Interpretation e.V.), Slovakia and Portugal. The planned practices and trainings will take place in two stages – autumn 2016 and spring 2017. Every employee taking part in the project will participate in practices/trainings adjusted for needs related to responsibilities performed by them at the Museum regarding self-development of competences as education personnel for adults. The project results will include among others: - knowing new, innovative and interdisciplinary methods of museum education, - knowing new information and communication solutions that can be implemented at the museum’s work (multimedia techniques used for creation of educational programs, digitalization, making collections available online and other related e-services), - improving skills concerning preparation of museum’s offer for disadvantaged groups, - improving knowledge on organising exhibitions and cultural events with regard to their educational aspects, - ability to work internationally, building national and foreign partnerships, - knowing new sources of financing of cultural projects, planning and management of educational projects, - building projects for upskilling of education personnel for adults, - improving language competences (English, Portugal, Dutch, French). At museums, the issue of international change of teams’ experience is still not that popular. Our goal was to prepare the project aiming at international change of museums’ employees that would become a pilot program allowing establishing standards of co-operation between the European cultural institutions for upskilling the education personnel working in the museums for the benefit of adults in order to make their visits in the museums an unforgettable experience.
