STRATEGIA DIMPRESA IN SETTORI DI NICCHIA PER LECONOMIA AGROINDUSTRIALE DEL MEDITERRANEO (PYRGI)

The project PYRGI aims at developing niche sectors of the rural economy and agro-industrial North of the Mediterranean through:1. the exploitation of wild plants and cultivated multifunctional typical of the 'Mediterranean environment, or naturalized in it;2. the strengthening of the economic chain that goes from the producer and the consumer ends with passing through the transformation, promotion and marketing of products identified and obtained.Project activities include:• domestication of new species;• identification and exploitation of species and ecotypes of species already present in the area (eg herbs and Mediterranean);• the study and implementation of strategies for bidding;• characterization and promotion of species already cultivated (eg citrus courses, Genoese basil, Sardinian myrtle and some aromatic species to ornamental use such as rosemary, thyme and sage) as a symbol and representation of the territory;• reduction of energy inputs (water, fertilizers, pesticides) through the use of low-species and selections needs;• the study of the effect of cultivation techniques, the environment and its changes on the synthesis of secondary compounds and aromatic;• the promotion of products derived from these species through the activation of dies for the exploitation of agro-industrial and commercial value of their characteristics (including the production of aromatic compounds in value, medicinal and nutraceutical) and the final marketing;• the involvement of institutions that deal with promotion and enhancement of products, agricultural and processing enterprises, institutions or companies working in areas related to agriculture, the protection and enhancement of natural resources;• the communication to the consumer and to promote their products. It will involve the system of rural houses, farms and pharmacy education. Expected Results:  The identification of species and ecotypes  Location distinction between species and sampling areas and areas of cultivation  Determine the agronomic characteristics of selected species  Development of protocols for the sustainable cultivation and conservation of germplasm and biological  Identification growing conditions, nutritional and environmental effects on the production of important metabolites  Determination environmental growing conditions and to improve the quantity and quality of fresh produce  Genetic improvement of the performances of some species  Determine the chemical and extraction protocols  List the biological properties and assessments of condition and safe to use  Preparation formulations pilot and prepared food, cosmetics, healthy, and pharmaceutical agrofarmaceutici containing extracts of the plants under study  Promotion and marketing of products  Definition of best practices for environmental sustainability of project actions  Identification and awareness of companies potentially interested  Awareness of policy makers: preparation of measures of governance on the part of the partners, such as demonstration and pilot intervention.
