STORY OF THE STONE, BRAC - BOURGOGNE
Start date: Sep 20, 2015, End date: Sep 19, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Story of the stone, Brac-Bourgogne” is implemented through an international partnership between schools from different subsystems of education in Croatia and France. The main project objectives are: - To improve the professional competences of teachers enabling them to implement innovative and creative cross-curricular teaching, research and project teaching. - To increase students' motivation for learning and their educational achievements through innovative educational practices. Professionally empowered teachers are fundamental factor for improving education system, and students’ achievement is the measure of the effect of this process. Since the project is carried out transnationally and is focused on two target groups: teachers and pupils, the results will directly contribute to the improvement of European education systems. 90 teachers and 1000 students at partner schools are directly involved in the project. During its implementation, through the dissemination processes, another 90 teachers and 1250 students in participating schools’ local community will be included. The methodology of the project is based on establishing the concept and demonstrating the whole process of practical application of innovative cross-curricular teaching. 1. Selection of educational content appropriate for innovative teaching (research of primary sources in the immediate environment of students from all participating schools) 2. Connecting teachers from all partner schools in interdisciplinary teams 3. Team planning of teaching activities in every school 4. Realizing the innovative models of teaching in every school 5. International meetings of teachers and students with the purpose of common learning and exchange of good practice 6. Analyzing, describing and disseminating new knowledge, experience and work results. The organization of work ensuring effective implementation of the project activities has been established. Transnational project team arranges the course, dynamics and methods of implementation of all planned activities. Coordinators transfer information to their school teams, and school teams to the teachers' collectives in their school. During and after activities in each school, the results are analyzed and conclusions are made at meetings of school teams. School coordinators inform transnational project team. Solid organizational structure and distribution of responsibilities ensures effective and timely implementation of all project activities. The intellectual (material) project results will be two handbooks and one document, all interconnected and compatible. The first handbook is cultural, referring to the primary sources of learning – teaching content based on which innovative models of teaching are developed. It will clearly demonstrate to teachers how to connect school learning with the life of students in their immediate environment. The second handbook is methodical. It contains a theoretical framework for innovative teaching and a collection of methodical models of work that teachers can immediately apply in their teaching practice. The third result is a document which will contain description of the knowledge and competences required if teachers want to apply the paradigm of innovative project and research cross-curricular teaching. All three results together make a whole. They are intended for educational staff and the persons responsible for the improvement of education. Following the established methodology and methodological models described, they will be able to implement project and research teaching in cross-curricular teaching practice, regardless of teaching content. Results of the project will be disseminated on several levels: in the partner schools, at the local level, at national and international level. The results will emerge from partner schools’ everyday practice, but not all the teachers are equally prepared for innovative teaching. Therefore, those who have more knowledge and experience present their working models to other colleagues in the collective. In the same way results will be disseminated in the local community, at professional conferences. At the national level, particular attention will be paid to demonstrating innovative practices and project results to educational policy holders and representatives of agencies that support education. All modern communication channels will be used for dissemination and popularization of the project to the public. Achieved project objectives guarantee the sustainability of the results themselves, since increased competences of teachers and students become their permanent possession. Their satisfaction with the new way of working will encourage them to continue working following the same model. The intellectual project results will facilitate all educational institutions applying new educational paradigm, thus strongly contributing to long-term sustainability.
