Stop au 7ème continent
Start date: Oct 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Youth Exchange « Stop the 7th continent » will take place in Le Pont de Montvert, in the region of Lozère from august 19th to septembre 9th 2015. This project plans to gather 20 participants from 18 to 30 years old coming from Slovakia, Italy, Spain and France. The « 7th continent » is the name given to a huge amount of waste which covers an area of 3,5 million km² in the Pacific Ocean. Through our daily consuming practices, especially the use of packaging, we are involved in this worldwide natural disaster. Even if the region of Lozere is one of the most protected and preserved area in France, and is part of a national park, the inhabitants of this region are also concerned by this problem and should think about a sustainable solution to the management of rubbishes and wasted packagings. Through this Youth Exchange we plan to reach the following objectives : allow exchanges about the creation and the management of rubbish between participants and with the local population meet with local actors involved in the recycling process develop some intercultural learning between young european citizens, through cooperation and collective life reinforce the local policy about waste management and bring another perspective to it We wish to involve in this Youth Exchange young european participants from different social and cultural backgrounds. We will do as much as possible to facilitate the involvement of everybody in this project, especially youths with fewer opportunities and local youths. In order to achieve that, each partner will propose to local social structures to involve some young people in this project. However, no specific criteria will be used in the selection of the participants. Only the motivation to be involved in the project, to discuss about the topic, and to share his-her energy with others will be taken into account. Our work methodology will mostly use the participe method, which means that the activities are decided collectively, and that each participant will be an actor of the workshops and will contribute to its making-up. The project is divided in 3 phases : a first step focused on discovering each other and exchanging about the topic. A second step of meeting with local partners and creating some communication tools A last step in order to share with the local population about the exchanges and to communicate about the project. We plan to involve local partners toprepare and organise the project : a local associative recycling centre, the local recycling centre, a local association involved in environmental education, a national park, local villages... We plan to organise some visits of various recycling centres, some workshops about the management of waste in different european countries, some participative workshops with local inhabitants and local young people. The expected impacts on young european people and on the local community will be to raise awareness about the issue of waste management and to encourage european open-mindedness and mobility. We believe that the project will motivate the participants to take part into more international and european projects, such as EVS or Youth Exchanges, and to develop the european cooperation. Besides, we wish to develop the idea of european citizenship by helping young people and local inhabitants to get involved in local projects as well as in european projects.
