Step Up! Inovácia a obohatenie vyučovania anglického jazyka

The project is focused on the professional growth of the participants and its aim is to update knowledge of current trends in the use of contemporary English, enhance creativity in the teaching process and be more innovate in the approach to CLIL. The participants will acquire practical techniques and innovative teaching methods, which will afterwards be applied to the teaching plans and process. The participants were three English language teachers (with various specialisms including pedagogy and civics), two of them currently in charge of the English Language Departments at our school. The selection criteria, such as willingness to cooperate and innovate, flexibility and motivation to develop their professional career, were determined by the school management. While attending the courses they gained new practical abilities and skills relevant for teaching all age categories. They created a new portfolio of various materials and upgraded their knowledge of cultural and social aspects of life in the UK. The fundamental part of our project was participating in three teacher training courses held at Bell Educational Services Ltd. ,Cambridge, which were led by highly qualified professionals through a series of lectures, seminars and workshops. The project activities included the updating of the participants current knowledge in the topics of modern English language, social and cultural changes in society and using creative methods in teaching. Other activities supported the enhancement of practical language skills and techniques of teaching as well as creating our own teaching materials and developing practical and creative techniques in language teaching. The implementation of this acquired knowledge has led to an increased interest and higher motivation of the students to learn the language and utilize this knowledge during further studies at our school or at university. It has also developed their ability to communicate both inside and outside educational institutions and become fully-fledged European citizens. The project has brought many improvements in didactics, planning and implementation of English language teaching and teaching other subjects in English in our school, and increased the effectiveness of our school for our current students and more attractive to our prospective students.
