Step Forward for Better Future!
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project meets all objectives of European Voluntary Service program, because it develops solidarity and promotes tolerance among young people, in particular in order to foster social cohesion between an European Union country (Portugal) and an eastern country (Georgia). This is a short term project that will take place in Georgia from 1st September 2015 to 1st October 2015. It will take places in Rustavi city and it will count on the participation of 4 portuguese volunteers. The two main objectives of this project rely on youth participan and european citizenship. EVS volunteers will develop activities, based on non-formal methodology, in which will engage children and youngsters from this city. Therefore, volunteers will acquire new experiences, new skills and gain independence. They will have the chance to get in touch with different cultures and work for a useful project for the local community of the hosting country. Volunteers will learn to live with people from different backgrounds, with different cultural traditions and will acknowledge the diversity. At the same time, they will discover Georgia, which is still a quite unknowed country for portuguese youngsters. It will be an opportunity during this month to understand better its social, economic, cultural realities beyond the stereotypes about this eastern country. In another hand, Georgian youngsters and general local community will also have the opportunity to learn more about Portugal and portuguese culture and hopefully this will break down some prejudice ideas towards foreing people. The sum of all these practices would help the volunteers to expand their point of view and to acquire new skills. We also seek for the promotion of team work collaboration among the Portuguese volunteers and local volunteers and the personnel of the host organisation; integrate the EVS volunteer in the organization's activities with the objective of enriching the volunteer themselves and the local community with their participation and contributions and reinforce the volunteer’s self-esteem and their feeling of inclusion within the group.
