Learning in the classroom does not allow students to acquire skills good enough to fulfill expectations of future employers. Today’s employers expect from their employee some practical skills, the knowledge of new trends, a good level of a foreign language and a completed internship. As a result, the school wants to help its students undertake the training abroad in order to improve the quality, attractiveness and effectiveness of vocational training as well as meet the expectations raised by employers. The given project includes the participation of 72 students both of Technical Secondary School and Vocational School of the Building Schools Complex in Konin in four week work placement in the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany. The internship will be held in four groups of 18 people in the years 2015-2017. Training institutions are Tellus (Group) Ltd-work experience UK (Tellus) and Vitalis GMBH (Germany). Training will take place in Plymouth and Leipzig best facilities offering the opportunity to develop professional skills of students. In every company, the internship will be organized in small groups of two or three people. Each group will have its own manager – the person working in the given place and training will be monitored by Tellus Group Ltd., Vitalis Gmbh manager and two other teachers - internship guardians of the Building Schools Complex. At the time of doing the internship, students will master English or German language and culture of the host country thanks to language courses, cultural activities, sightseeing tours or host families in the UK. Students will take part in intense English or German language courses a few months before their departure to the UK or Germany. They will also participate in workshops about stress, conflict solutions, vocational counseling and safety regulations in the workplace, the ability of creating portfolio. The main aim of the project is to enable students of construction industry, surveying, logistics, catering and hotel industry to gain and improve vocational skills in attractive workplace conditions as well as to give them the opportunity to increase their chances on the job market. Moreover, students will be able to get to know needs of the European employers and European job market. At the same time, the school itself will gain experience in handling international projects. Detailed goals of the project are improvement of vocational skills and foreign language (English and German) during the internship in the UK and Germany and cooperation with vocational training institutions in these countries. Thanks to the project, all 72 participants will get new qualifications and vocational skills in the UK and Germany confirmed by certificate and the Europass Mobility in Polish, English, German languages, they will be able to improve their English and German language (English and German language course certificates), will benefit from educational activities, learn how to deal with stressful situations, create their own EUROPASS CV and electronic Portfolio. All these things will significantly help students look for better job opportunities in the future. The internship will prepare students to a proper use of vocational English and German languages, it will also develop their own self esteem and motivation for future education and helps them gain experience as workers in a different culture and reality. What is more, students will expand their interpersonal skills, learn independence and responsibility in the new environment. The Building Schools Complex in Konin will present project results on school website, exhibitions, seminaries and will include vocational internship in the school curriculum. The project itself will contribute to the promotion of school and its students’ achievements (future graduates) in local environment.
