Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The KA1-project: 'Starting in adult education – early career support' started from the explicit need of centres to be supported in developing a coherent induction programme; also because of some recommendations of the self-evaluation and external evaluation of the pedagogical guidance service. POV is an umbrella organisation of schools and centres of adult education. Objectives of the KA1-project ‘Starting in adult education – early career support’:- having an overview of induction programmes of several European countries (Finland, UK, the Netherlands,…), especially those who are structurally embedded in the education system;- further professionalization concerning coaching and (self-)reflection;- sharpening skills and knowledge of methodologies in function of intervision sessions with starting teachers and peercoaching;- exploring training programmes of mentors;- staying up to date concerning active didactics and innovative e-learning tools; following the principle ‘teach as you preach’ the training course for coaches/mentors will be in blended learning (a combination of face-to-face instructions and web-based training)- further developing the European dimension within POV; challenges related to internationalization and innovation is a strong ambition of our organisation;- networking and to have a dialogue about education, across boundaries, with respect for the different cultures and characteristics; also knowing that copying is not the purpose; learning is.The target group of the KA1-project are pedagogical advisors and trainers, involved in projects in the adult education; in particular the self-steering team who participates in the pilot project of early career support for NQT. The KA1-project is based upon 4 clusters:Cluster 1: study visits to inspire new policies to support newly qualified teachers in centres for adult education;Cluster 2: professional development activities to develop a structure and a culture of support, particularly of NQT’s;Cluster 3: facilitating and coordinating a network of NQT’s (cross-institutional);Cluster 4: professional development activities to train coaches/mentors.The project will also address the inquiring attitude of the participants: they’ll reflect on their practice of guidance and training. The project will also sharpen their flexibility, enhance their communicative skills, and also the social and civilian effect. And not at least, also their entrepreneurship and intercultural awareness. This project will be the next step in the further development of system-wide supporting measures for NQT – Flanders wide – to enhance their professionalism, their welfare and their professional growth as a teacher (reducing the dropout rate of teachers). On Flemish level POV wants to be the reference and share the expertise with colleagues of other guidance services. On international level POV will increase and intensify the network to share and to cooperate on a sustainable way.
