This project is about the continuous development of experts working at the Education and Training Service Centre (ETSC). The ETSC has the role of beeing a centre of development of non-formal adult education in Iceland and for this purpose, it is very important that the experts working at the Centre can learn new ideas and train new skills in order to bring back fresh ideas into the business of the Centre. The ETSC targets those who have not completed the upper secondary level of education. This target group comprises approx. 33% of the Icelandic labour force. The objective is to enable individuals who have not graduated from the upper secondary level to obtain an education and improve their position in the labour market, which complies with the focus laid e.g. in European agenda for adult learning and Europe 2020. The ETSC operates in accordance with a service contract with The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. Its main responsibilities include: 1) Writing curricula and programme descriptions and collaborating with ETSC?s contracted partners in their development. 2) Administering The Education Fund and its finances. 3) Collecting, maintaining and sharing information on adult education and the target group in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and Statistics Iceland. 4) Collecting, maintaining and sharing information on the target group and its educational needs. 5) Identifying the educational needs of the target group in cooperation with the employment sector and educational providers in order to develop an inventory of long- and short-term courses to meet those needs. 6) Developing methods in the field of accredited adult education in cooperation with educational providers and communicating both national and international innovations to specialists within adult education. 7) Ensuring the development and dissemination of methods to validate non-formal and informal learning, as well as monitoring their implementation and providing training and feedback to specialists. 8) Supervising the development of guidance and counselling for ETSC?s target group in cooperation with educational providers and specialists in Iceland and abroad, and sharing this knowledge with professionals in the field. 9) Enhancing the quality of educational activities and guidance by accredited educational providers through the development of quality standards in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. 10) Developing and maintaining a student registry in cooperation with educational providers and the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, taking into account the validation of informal study and non-formal learning. 11) Disseminating information and results, both national as well as international, regarding ETSC's field of work. 12) Supporting the production of learning material for the target group. 13) Preparing the inclusion of new groups of individuals with reduced educational and professional opportunities by exploiting synergies with ETSC's work. 14) Undertaking various projects in adult education in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, the owners of ETSC and other partners. The ETSC also hosts the Icelandic coordinator in the Nordic Network for Adult Learning (NVL), a project initiated and financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers, acting as a meeting place for Nordic adult learning and cooperation in that field.. The projects listed in this application are carefully chosen in cooperation with the respective experts and have a clear reference to the responsibilities and projects that the ETSC is working on according to its objectives.
