STAND & Romania
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

To send 60 disadvantaged young people and 20 accompanying adults to Oreada Romania for 3 weeks in 2016/2017 to engage in work experience with the host organisation. In the process the young people will develop a greater understanding of themselves, their place within the European employment market whilst developing a theoretical and practical skills base in basic building and construction skills. These can then be transferred to any future work place. Those involved will be young people who are socially and economically excluded. All of the young people we work with will have had experience of homelessness, drugs/alcohol addiction, poor mental health and low level criminality. Because of these issues they experience greater barriers to employment and very rarely progress into full time employment. Outcomes  To develop an understanding of different views and belief patterns and interact in a respectful non discriminatory way.  To value self and gain confidence and address cycle of poor achievement  To raise personal expectations and aspirations about oneself.  Help the individual maintain optimum mental health and reduce worry and isolation  To develop an altruistic attitude which allows the participant to realise than s/he can assist others in similar circumstances.  To develop a sense of self worth and self belief which will enhance future chances of employment.  To develop the ability to work as a team and contribute to a project that encourages joint working  To have option of providing a positive reference for potential employers  Develop coping strategies
