Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Although VET is considered to be the development engine of a country, nowadays, in our country, this faces issues related to financing, the reluctance of economic agents as well as parents and students. According to the statistics from GORJ COUNTY SCHOOL INSPECTORATE, 80% of the students who drop out school come from VET, the rate of admission at the baccalaureate exam in these high schools is under 20 % and the rate of professional insertion in their field of studies varies between 1.5 and 11%. Consequently, these institutions have become unattractive and therefore, in the list of options for high school admission of gymnasium students, they are placed the last. Even though these educational institutions have made efforts to improve their educational offer, accrediting new specializations, according to the trends of the local and regional labour market, the reluctance of economic agents, their poor work facilities along with the poor instrumentation of the school labs, or the lack of experience of the teachers in the field make these efforts be only partially justified. This project intends to increase the level of personal and professional development of students by acquiring new skills that will facilitate their integration on the labour market, as well as training a staff of teachers in the field that will ensure at the end of the project, the continuation the training activities at a very high level. This project is the solution identified by our institution, as a result of the analyses made within the School Action Plan for 2011-2017, in order to remedy the main problems that it faces at present and that ensure the accomplishment of the following objectives from the institutional development programme: -providing the personal and professional development conditions for students; -providing the development and training conditions for teachers; -adapting the school offer to the requirements of the Romanian and European labour market. In order to provide a predictability of the development direction of our institution and to offer the chance for students and engineer teachers to participate at the best, the project will run over two years and is designed to provide the practical training stages for the students in the 11th grade, in the Natural Resources programme, (the main programme of the high school) for the specializations: -Ecologist technician and environmental quality protection -Technician in food analyses as well as providing development for 8 engineer teachers in the Natural Resources programme through types of activities such as job shadowing. Both the programme and the specializations were chosen as they are the latest our high school was accredited for and the institution’s or economic agents’ facilities as well as the experience of the teaching staff do not allow us to provide the standards required by the Practical Training Standards (PTS) within the practical training activities. The practical training stages for the participant students from the two specializations will run annually, in 2 flows, with a duration of 3 weeks, within economic agents of the partner Portuguese school: -Year 1 –May 2015 – F1-10 students-Ecologist technician and environmental quality protection -June 2015 – F2-10 students-Technician in food analyses -Year 2 –May 2016 – F1-10 students-Ecologist technician and environmental quality protection -June 2016 – F2-10 students-Technician in food analyses The training of the participant teachers will be made in annually in two flows, for two weeks, through activities of job shadowing within the partner high school: -Year 1 – May 2015 – F1 – 4 engineer teachers -Year 2 – May 2016 – F2 – 4 engineer teachers The students’ placement will be made within the economic agents identified by the partner and will aim at acquiring the knowledge and the practical skills for the participants in the two specializations. The content of the study program was agreed by the technical department and the economic agents representatives so as to be in accordance with the Practical Training Standards and the curriculum and was discussed and agreed with the receiving organization, being written and signed a MoU and a LA. The expected impact on students, teachers and partner economic agents: -reducing by 20% of the school dropout rate of students with poor financial situation, coming from rural areas, disorganized families, students coming from “Home Alone” generation, with one or both parents gone to work abroad; -increasing by 10% the rate of admission at the baccalaureate exam; -increasing by 10% the number of partnerships signed; -increasing by 10% the rate of professional insertion of graduates; -reducing by 15% the rate of school truancy; -increasing by 20% of the interest.
