Stage Vliegtuigtechnicus
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Petrus & Paulus West – Vrij Technisch Instituut Oostende (Belgium) has started an exchange project for the airplane mechanic department in cooperation with Berufsbildende Schulen Rinteln (Niedersachsen, Germany). Two pupils from our Secondary after Secondary Airplane Mechanic class will get an in-company training in MTU Hannover (jet engine maintenance) and an on-the-spot training in the German army civil training centre Fassberg for a period of four weeks. During the same period the German pupils (who get a training in the German dual system) will be trained in the Belgian air force in Melsbroek and in Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen. Two teachers are involved in this project. They will work in the company where their pupils are trained while visiting them for about five days. This offers both pupils and teachers opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge in an environment with possibilities and equipment which are not available in Flanders. They will experience a lot of professional opportunities abroad. They will also discover another culture, both in the field of training and education. Although the curriculum is exactly the same (due to European regulations, c.q. EASA part 66), it is interesting to get to know other methods. Language will cause few problems as the use of English is standard in aviation. Gaining experience in international exchange with the aircraft mechanic department will give other departments the opportunity to set up similar European exchange projects (construction, carpentry, electromechanics, airco and heating, car mechanics, etc.). As such the Flemish curriculum is being extended with on-the-spot training in interesting companies. Also trainings in the field of professions which are in great demand are made more attractive.
