stage de formation à la langue et culture anglaises et ouverture européenne
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school École de La Pointe in Brest is especially dedicated to the integration of deaf pupils. Otherwise our school is also involved in foreign languages teaching: english, spanish and sign language are actually taught on a regular weekly rhythm to all pupils. Trough our involvement in language learning, we consider that european values and human cultures diversity are very important to be transmitted to the pupils, especially because children originating from very different social classes are gathered in our school. Three teachers are involved in english training in École de La Pointe, and all of them want to improve their professional skills during this innovative training in Oxford; this training matches with our needs for the following: - evaluate clearly their personal language level (a test is planed at the beginning of the formation) to improve language skills (grammar, phonology, vocabulary) and communication (oral understanding and expression) - look at teaching in english classroom so that they have patterns to be inspired by when back in France in their own classrooms - spot and select tools used in english classrooms to adapt and use them when back in France (multimedia tools, books, CDs, DVDs...) - meet others teachers coming from several European countries and exchange about our diverse teaching practices and educational systems - exchange with European teachers about differenciation in teaching and how it may be used to reduce school failure - enhance our knowledge about the diversity of European cultures to teach it better and promote curiosity, tolerance and respect to future european citizens. Our school project has two main objectives: - improve results of pupils in the CECRL evaluation - bridge the gap between problem and good pupils This Erasmus+ training would help us to train all pupils to reach the A1 level of the common European framework. Such a goal would help children to succeed in their multidisciplinary educational program. During the stay in Oxford we plan to work on the use of multimedia tools (e.g. numerical blackboards, interactive websites...) to teach languages to heterogeneous classes. After this training in Oxford, using the results of our research, we plan to teach several subjects in english such as sport, natural sciences, geography and art. Other teachers of the École de La Pointe would also benefit from our training: we will use our skills during “getting together” classes organized on a daily basis in our school. We also plan to present new skills and ideas to teachers from other schools in the district of Brest: this has already been discussed with our management and will be organized during special meetings (teaching skills workshops, presentation of learned new teaching methods and documents). The diffusion of our experience in the UK in the families of our pupils will also help them to become aware of the european dimension of the project around their child.
