St. Peter Apostle European Language Initiative
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

We hope that 6 of our teachers will travel to Spain and gain knowledge on how to teach and integrate Spanish into the school. We hope to link with Spanish schools and set up communication with them. Our participants include 5 teachers from different class levels and a home-school liaison teacher. We hope to gain greater cultural awareness which we can then transfer to the pupils that we teach. We hope to also improve our teaching methodologies for teaching languages within the school. We intend to organise assemblies with activities related to the target language for our pupils and we will put all the new resources on the share drive in the school to help learning and teaching throughout the school. To try and raise awareness of the importance of languages and Europe within the school to parents and other stakeholders we will;promote the language using brochures, blogs and our school website/newsletterthe home school liaison teacher intends to create new courses and provide training to parents,we will communicate results to colleagues. We will integrate the training into our school plan to aid our teaching of languages. The designated teacher will make class observations and act as an aid in classes of teachers that didn't receive the training. We want to foster a continued interest in the language. We want to make the children and parents aware of Spanish and how it can be of use e.g. holidays, in the future for work, open doors to work abroad. Our HSLC Aoife hopes to organise Spanish lessons for the wider community.
