Our school is an old German grammar school whose teaching objectives are founded in the humanistic tradition. Apart from English the students learn Latin and Ancient Greek as an integral part of their scholastic education. Since 2010 we have a new branch/division consisting of the "Staatliche Europaschule Berlin (SESB)" in which students of Greek origin or background are educated. The objectives of our Erasmus Plus project "Sprachen stärken - Schule entwickeln" can be summed up in three main categories:1. teaching objectives: teachers - especially language teachers - attend courses to improve and strengthen their professional, methodological, social, intercultural and linguistic competences.2. Integration of the SESB-branch: teacher teaching in the SESB-branch should be all set for the different requirements in the SESB-classes. Moreover, a better understanding should lead to a better integration of the two school divisions.3. implementation and use of new media in teaching: language teachers and teachers of other subjects should get to know a professionalized and structured use of digital media in lessons. All in all 17 participants will take part in the various activities of our project, whose professional profile can be very different. Firstly, some activities are aimed at the language teachers - in particular English teachers - in order to improve langauge teaching. Other subjects should benefit from new ideas and improvements through dissemination. The teacher course in Greece is addressed to all teachers who have taught, teach or will teach classes of the SESB - the course will contain a language class, cultural, political aspects and school visits. In addition to that the ICT courses should involve those teachers who have developed an interest in this field and who have already attended further training courses.A coordination team will organise the project during the two years, i.e. they will decide on who will take part and at what dates different activities will be set. Furthermore, they will prepare the participants and develop and implement an accompanying and evaluating sheet which will also be evaluated during and at the end of the project. This coordination team will also be available for the participants throughout the different activities. We aspire to assure, develop and improve the quality of our teaching. There is a strong tendency of individualising learning processes in heterogenic classes. Considering the SESB we hope, that the two school divisions will grow into one unit and that a better mutual understanding and therefore a well-directed support will meet the needs of the Greek students. Last but not least, our last aim is writing and implementing a media curriculum.A long-term benefit of this project should be the strengthening and sharpening of our school profile in order to be able to meet the challenges of the demographic change, the growing heterogeneity of the students and the changing expectations of parents.
