Brief Project Description
The Sport against Dependencies project is a youth exchange that is going to take place in the town of Smolyan, Bulgaria, in the period 11st-21th August 2014. Fifty young people aged 18-25 from Bulgaria and Greece are going to participate in it. The project aims to introduce to the participants opportunities for a healthy lifestyle through mass sport and open-air activities as an alternative of and means of coping with the negative trends in society, the use of alcohol, tobacco, psychoactive substances, etc. Lately, there has been a growth in the number of young people using these substances, which reflects their personal development. The topic will meet the interests and needs of the participants and the society by including sport as a means of coping with the negative trends. By carrying our informal activities in the form of role-plays, discussions and discussion forums, teamwork and informal learning through collective activities, the participants will be encouraged to take an active public stand regarding the abuse of harmful substances and engage actively in the project activities. Along with that, the personal behaviour will be analysed in order to determine what makes young people start consuming these substances and the willingness to lead a healthy life through sport as a means of preventions will be encouraged. The topic is important and challenging since the factors in question are related to the future physical and emotional personal development. By taking part in the project the participants will extend their knowledge of the partner countries, of their cultural and historical heritage, and natural resources, as well as improve their foreign languages. Through sport and open-air activities they will acquire skills related to leadership, teamwork, mutual aid, responsibility towards the team, obeying rules. The exchange and the established partnerships will add a European dimension to public life by encouraging the cooperation between young people and their personal development. Subsequently the project will be carried out through local activities. This will result in a build-up and in attracting adherents to the idea.
