"Sports and games, intercultural activities and healthy lifestyles" is a bilateral project organized by Vijeće planinki i skauta Hrvatske (The Girl Guide and Scout Council of Croatia) from Zagreb, Croatia, in partnership with the scout group "Eräkamut ry" from Kerava, Finland. The project lasts from June 17 to October 15 of 2014, with the main Action July 12 – 18 2014 in Prvić Luka on the Adriatic island of Prvić near Šibenik, Croatia. Endeavouring towards promoting and fostering European values, the objectives of our project are: international cooperation of young people through non-formal learning in the areas of sports and games, cultural exchange, (exploring cultural heritage and /the beginning of/ mutual understanding of languages), fostering healthy lifestyles and inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, including young people with disabilities. Organized activities in the society often remain out of reach for young people with fewer opportunities, especially for disabled, mostly due to unadjusted methods and requisites, but also because of far too small a number of people and leaders who are really ready to take care of it. Therefore this project primarily aims young people with fewer opportunities, including disabled. Therefore also (both organizations) first selected participants from this population. Other participants were selected primarily according to preference and opportunities for cooperation with the first group, Each organization participates with 25 young members aged 13 - 24, including young people with fewer opportunities, (with gender balance) + 5 leaders. Out of total number of Participants there are 23 young people with fewer opportunities, including 8 young people with hearing impairments. Because of that the leading team is strengthened with support of two interpreters for the deaf, a nurse and social worker. Organization of activities on the main Action: The most important part of activities (mostly in the morning until lunchtime), as well as overall life in the camp, will be realized in four International permanent groups (IPG) composed of two national patrols (i.e. 6-7 members from each country). Part of activities will be done in the international Thematic workshops – several of them at the same time –composed by participants' interest in the topic, regardless of their belonging to IPG. Depending on particular topics, workshops can last a day or more, and the workshop "Could we understand multilingual" will run during the whole Action. A small part of activities will be in national groups (or national patrols in IPGs). During these activities, each participant records the activities of that day, including a daily reflection and self-evaluation (evaluation of the whole action will be done on the last day), as well as preparing for the next day's activities. Some activities will be common for all participants (e.g. evening activities and a trip). The activities will be realized and coordinated mostly of participants, using non-formal methods, with leaders helping them in preparation and facilitating the realization. During activities in national groups (or national patrols) when the participants make daily reflection and self-evaluation, as well as preparing for the next day's activities, leaders have the role of mentors. The project will effectively contribute to the development of awareness of participants on the meaning and value of the principle of "equal opportunities for all young people", recognizing the possibilities of sports and games, intercultural exchanges and healthy lifestyles in this process. Participants will learn many new things, gain direct experience of socializing and trying multilingual communication with young people from other countries and insight into the value of non-formal and experiential informal learning. The potential longer term benefits could be the acceptance of this kind (hopefully successfully realized) project as an example of one possible model for youth activities with a larger number of young people with fewer opportunities, including the disabled.
