Sportacek/Wannado: Family Sport Festivals
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Apr 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

We are seeking funding to support the production of family sport festivals in Prague, Czech Republic; Bratislava, Slovakia; and Katowice, Poland. Held on 10 September, 2016, the festivals will complement the European Week of Sport. We are a small non-profit organization on a mission to get people moving. Since hosting our first family sport festival in Prague in 2011, we have expanded across the Czech Republic. With sport participation declining throughout Europe, we are now working to expand beyond Czech borders. Our approach is highly effective. We bring a large number of local sports clubs – 126 in Prague alone in 2015 – to one place, where they set up dynamic activities relating to their sport that visitors can try. We offer free entry, and present the widest variety of sports – including adaptive sports (for the disabled) – to give as many people as possible the chance to find a sport they can get excited about. When a visitor tries a sport that captures their attention, they can speak directly to representatives from the local club, greatly increasing the chances that they will stick with it.The festival also includes visits from well-known sportsmen and sportswomen, performances by the sports clubs’ existing members, raffles, and other fun activities. In this way, we create an exciting “sport world” that everyone can – and wants to – participate in, now and in the future. We have already begun preparations for this year’s events, as the full process takes longer than a year, and we are committed to implementing the events successfully. But our funding, largely from smaller corporate donors, is severely limited; indeed, it is insufficient to enable us to produce these events. With EU support, we would be able not only to host events in Prague, Bratislava, and Katowice this year, but also to secure long-term sustainability, including our future expansion to more European communities.
