Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The EVS project "Spielend leben lernen 2016/ Learning to live playfully 2016" will take place in “SindBad 63” an educational project of the Kinderhaus Berlin Mark Brandenburg e.V. , an institution of the German child and youth welfare service which offers a wide spectrum of social and educational projects. The aim of the projects is the promotion and integration of socially and individually disadvantaged and impaired children, youths and their families. “SindBad 63” is one of three groups that aims at integrating families, enabling them to build up stable support and living conditions as well as learning to deal with each other and to manage difficulties and crisis. The clients living in the group “SindBad 63” are attended and accompanied 24 hours per day by social education workers. The volunteer will support the work of the staff in offering leisure time activities as well as assisting the clients with day to day activities such as shopping, cooking, visiting the doctor and the authorities if necessary. The reflection upon one´s own identity as well as social and cultural background and putting the so far obvious and unknown in question will constitute a learning outcome. This will be promoted by the experience in a foreign country and on the other hand by the tasks and constellation in this special project.A high degree of motivation for volunteering as well as acceptance and tolerance towards others with challenging social background is expected. Responsible and considerate actions, empathy, openness and dedication to work are also strongly required.
