Speak Unique

The youth exchange project "Speak Unique&" took place on 23 May - 1 June 2015 in Rezekne, Latvia. It was organized by Film Design Studio BaltStar which hosted 36 participants from 4 organizations coming from European countries. Young participants who are connected with culture and art came from Spain, Italy, Turkey and Latvia. Preparatory meeting for the leaders was organized on 8-10 April 2015. 2 leaders from Spain and Turkey took place in this meeting. Project aim was to increase European cultural and linguistic awareness among young people focusing on the value of small unique European languages such as Catalanian, Latgalian and different Italian and Turkish dialects. Small languages also are the unique cultural and spiritual value of the European Union which deserves protection as any European value. The main idea of the project was to present small unique languages through theater workshops and performances, to unleash youth potentials to be creative and innovative. Theater workshops help to develop identity, imagination and thinking of youth. Young people spent 10 days in the East-Latvian centre of Art industry “Zeimuls”, exploring and exchanging ideas about the themes of preserving small European languages as cultural and spiritual values of the European Union, creativity, human rights and languages, cultural heritage, promoting common international artistic youth initiatives, development of common innovative projects in creative and cultural fields. The project stimulated youth active participation, understanding of European cultural values, creativity, strengthening their own awareness of perspective of European Citizenship pointing out their rights and main role in the construction of the current and future Europe. Final result of the project - Theater performance "Speak Unique" was shown to the local audience during Art and Music festival "Seven Hills Fest" in Rezekne.
