Speak It Out!- Encounter of Cultures
Start date: Apr 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project "Speak It Out!- Encounter of Cultures " is a four months lasting long-term EVS-project that starts at 4.4.2016 and ends at 4.8.2016. At this project there are two organizations involved: 1. Ankkapurha Culture Foundation, Finland (hosting organization) and 2.System and Generation Association - S&G, Turkey (sending organization). Sending organization sends two volunteer to do the project to Ankkapurha culture foundation that is a background organization for Anjala Youth Centre. The coordinating organisation, Ankkapurha culture foundation ( Ankkapurhan kulttuurisäätiö) primary task is to develop and support youth work as national and international youth centre. There are two main targets at this project: To offer volunteers a chance to international experience and encounter of cultures in safe and supporting environment and on the other hand bring international dimension to our daily working environment. Volunteers will work together with staff of Anjala Youth Centre and will become part of instructor team that consists of 6-8 youth workers. Instructor team is responsible for planning and organizing different kind of activities for children and youth groups that visit to Anjala. Volunteers will never work alone but they have a chance to give they own thoughts to way we work and also instruct and of course learn about Finnish youth work methods at the same time. Outside instructing work vounteers will also take part to other tasks at Youth Centre for example fixing and preparing activity places and programmes with other instructors. Both volunteers are expected to have they own interest to work with children and young and also do instructing work. Besides the volunteers take part to daily instructing and organizing work we hope to have some special events like international club- evenings for children that could be connected to volunteers own culture and interests. In past years we have started to include more global education to our programmes at Youth Centre and club evenings will be one new way to do that through slow step action like playing games, doing some sport or art. Most of instructing groups at the volunteer time are Finnish camp schools that spent at Anjala ap. 2-5 days. Children/ pupils at those groups are mostly 12 years old and at that age awareness of different cultures is already growth to some point. Through our volunteers present at daily basis we hope them to face the encounter of cultures in natural way. Anjala Youth Centre have Its own blog, Facebook and Instagram where we also hope our volunteers to share they experiences the way they feel comfortable. We think that’s good way to encourage other young to participate to this kind of projects and also will be nice to leave marks to get back after the project. Our volunteers will work 5 days per week (usually from Monday to Friday 8.00-16.00) and maximum 8 hours per day that includes lunch break and two coffee breaks. Lunch is offered every day at Youth Centre Anjala dining hall and included to daily program. Volunteers will stay at rental flat where they share kitchen and bathroom but will also have own room to have some privacy. Staff of Anjala Youth Centre is available to help and support in any case and both volunteers will have their own mentor to make sure that everything goes well and also help while planning free time activities. The sending and hosting organizations are firmy cooperating throughout the whole project. Sending organization is well informed about the targets and timetable of the projects already at the time of "calling for partenrs". The volunteers will be also chosen is cooperation with sending and hoting organizations. During the volutery time there will be meeting between partners every forth week and more often if needed. For Anjala Youth Centre this project is one way to do and develop youth work. We work tight with other 9 national youth centers and that way have chance to share working methods and experiences in youth work field efficiently. Through that we also have strong and experienced background while thinking of offering successful volunteer time for both our volunteers, sending organizatin and for Anjala Youth Centre.
