Soziales Engagement im Europa des 21. Jahrhunderts:Stärkung der interkulturellen Kompetenz der Lehrkräfte
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium Crailsheim feels obliged to adhere to the values of its namesake. The guiding principles of the school's moral code are responsibility, respect, reliability, cooperation and fairness. Consequently, the social commitment of the members of the school community has a long tradition. At present, this becomes apparent in extracurricular and interdisciplinary projects like "Special Olympics" or projects within the certificate "School without racism - School with civil courage". International contacts have existed for decades: Students' exchanges with schools of Crailsheim's twin cities Worthington (USA), Pamiers (France) and Bilgoraj (Poland). There is also a cultural cooperation with Jubarkas (Lithuania). The project objective is the strengthening of the participants' intercultural competence, associated with the buildup of a social curriculum, which combines the existing projects and facilitates new ideas in order to face the increased demands in the 21st century Europe. This is especially necessary in the light of the latest increase of migration in Europe. In 2014, the percentage of students with migratory background at the ASG amounted to 30%.The participating colleagues are part of the existing social projects. They will attend international education and training courses, which are closely connected to their current commitment. They will also get to know the work in other countries and establish international contacts. The potential target group is the entire school community and the acquired knowledge will be presented in the school panels. The participants will be able to engage new colleagues for the social commitment, who, in turn, will offer new projects for the students.By using the new international contacts, the students' awareness for the European dimension of the projects will be raised in order to reduce prejudices and xenophobia, which is necessary for the social coexistence of students from different cultural environments.A follow-up project (e.g. KA 2) is aimed for. In order to avoid parallel structures we will formulate a European social school curriculum. The social commitment of the entire school community will be anchored in the awareness of teachers, students and parents. Thus, the sustainability of the projects will be secured.
