South-Sami costumes in Norway and Sweden (GAPTA)
Start date: Dec 31, 2002, End date: Jun 29, 2004 PROJECT  FINISHED

Two courses were planned but fourteen concluded! The courses in south-Sami dressmaking became the climax of the Gapta project. The participant learned how the design of costumes has varied over the years which inspired them to innovations. Helped by old photos and their own fantasy they created new models and patterns. The project which is run by Swedish Gaaltije and Norwegian Saemien Sijte, has been documenting the south-Sami dress and its development. The collected knowledge will now be an asset to the Sami in both countries and for use in research and training.
