SOS /Save Our Students/ Possibilities of Reducing Early School Leaving "Mentsük meg tanulóinkat" A korai iskolaelhagyás csökkentésének lehetőségei

The main target of our project is to decrease the amount of early school leavings by using new, diversified teaching methods. Moreover, the pre-drafted targets also contained the development of our colleagues’ language competences and establishing a positive school environment. The following 3 colleagues had travelled to international courses: Barta Bernadett, the psychologist of the school attended the Coaching in Educational Contexts to Reduce Early School Leaving in the framework of Cervantes Training in 2015 April, in Spain. She had the opportunity to make dialogues between the other participants, where they discussed the reasons of early school leavings over Europe. Their aim was to find possible solutions for decreasing the problem, which lies in making of teacher-student cooperation necessary to develop and the making of teacher-parent relation more dynamic. She acquired a special EFT method, which helps reducing the average stress, makes cooperation more positive, generates productivity and concentrates on solving problems through releasing emotions. Jászberényiné Kovács Katalin, a teacher of Geography and History attended Better English for Teacher course in the framework of International Projects Centre in the summer of 2015, in the United Kingdom. Beside further development of her language competence, she met different methods that might help her making their lessons more and more interesting for students and help interoperability between subjects materialize. Kökényné Czeglédi Veronika, a teacher of English attended Developing Oral Fluency in the Secondary English Language Classroom in the framework of International Projects Centre in the summer of 2015, in the United Kingdom. As a result of further education methodologies, new techniques were introduced and used in foreign language classes, such dividing the learners into groups creatively by colour and word cards, without the usage of dictionaries. The main target, which is the reduce of the school leaving, has not been able to measure and carry out in such a short period yet but an improving trend has already observed. However, the students are in favour of the new teaching methods which we have inducted. The lessons got more colourful and diversified. The members of the Management and Faculty attended a showcase in which the three mentioned teachers showed them the recent, newly learnt methods. What else is important is to get the students closer to European standards, namely they can see the benefits of learning languages. They are profiting from learning in an accepting and interesting environment by succeeding with finishing their studies. The results were beyond our expectancy: other colleagues were interested in the methods; more people attended the showcase than we had previously thought. Students showed higher interest the recently introduced methodological tasks. More colleagues had already indicated that they also would like to attend courses like these if a forthcoming tender will provide these opportunities. To measure the results, we gave them satisfaction surveys both before and after the execution of the projects. Teachers also filled in a questionnaire about the effectiveness and usefulness of the showcased lessons and the internal training. In addition to the questionnaire we also got positive feedback by making informal interviews with students and teachers about the results of the project and methods. In addition, we spread more widely our showcased studies. We held oral information in 2015 October for those who are representative of secondary schools in both Eger and Heves County, such as the Chamber of Industry, furthermore for those Chief Executive Officers to whom our students spend their external exercise. It had a great impact on them and they think by this our institution will be more attractive to those youths that are before choosing their careers. The website of the school and local press both made a report in connection with our results.
