Softimmigrants - Development of Socio-Cultural Working Skills for Immigrants and their Receivers

The Softimmigrants project plans to develop a series of training programmes for the development of Socio-Cultural Skills, to be used by companies as a part of the in-service training of immigrant workers and their supervisors. Each programme will be developed specifically in response to pre-or post-migration situations in specific country pairs: Finland & Estonia, Italy & Romania, Germany & Hungary.Following an initial survey of the Socio-Cultural (i.e. soft) skill requirements required by new employees in the partner countries, project partners (companies, training bodies and trade union representatives) will design a training programme in Socio-Cultural Skills for use in traditional classroom or distance-learning. A piloting phase will be undertaken with workers from each of the participating countries, with final training packages being released in on-line and CD-Rom format, each supported by accompanying support manual. The training programme will be applied across different activity sectors (construction, cleaning and IT) each attracting workers from a range of different age and gender groups, with a longer term vision that the approach will be able to be transferred to other work and life situations. As with programme development, dissemination will also be organised in specific country pairs and will make use of virtual (web-based) and actual discussions, project presentations, articles to press and seminars at local, regional, national and European level. Final products will be copyrighted and longer-term commercialisation is envisaged.
