Slovenian Coast. Enhancing the area between Venice and the Slovenian coast (Litoranea Veneta - Slovenian Coast. Enhancing the area between Venice and the Slovenian coast)
Start date: Nov 30, 2004, End date: Jun 29, 2007 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project aims at enhancing and consolidating the area in terms of tourism, culture and environment, by identifying the necessary initiatives to guarantee the efficiency of the river - maritime Litoranea Veneta Waterway. This inland waterway network makes up a system of canals, rivers and lagoons starting from the Po river and flowing into the Gulf of Trieste at Punta Sdobba and from here, along the coast, leading to Istria. In Italy the waterway runs through two regions, four provinces, twelve municipalities and, taking account of all its branches, is longer than 500 km. The area it runs through is very valuable in terms of environment and landscape; this waterway system aims at becoming one of the best known and valued inland navigation routes in the world. The Slovenian partner will assess the potential development of the project on Slovenian territory and will draw up a study to assess the actual demand and the type of supply. The project pursues several objectives, namely the safeguard and protection of the environment of the Venetian and Slovenian coasts, the setting up and development of a high-value tourist integrated system, with a view to fostering stronger integration and reciprocity in cultural exchanges - favoured by the tourist flow - thanks to a different and wider supply system, both in terms of quality and quantity. An additional objective is represented by the tripling, in the long term, of the volume of river-maritime transit, also by doubling the number of moorings and connected facilities.
