Skola för hållbar utveckling
Start date: Aug 10, 2014, End date: Aug 9, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Porsnäs school unit has commenced a long term work on sustainable development in line with the policy documents of our community and there is a great need of further training and inspiration to this work and therefore is our intention to visit other schools in other countries in our northern region, where the conditions are similar to ours, and learn from their work with sustainability issues. As we, apart from schools, also have established other contacts in Tromsö, which seem to be able to offer relevant experiences, we aim to make a study visit there. Our aim is to get inspiration and new knowledge which will help our school successfully establish a long term work with sustainable development. We also hope that the contacts we make can lead to future cooperation of some sort. The participants in the project are all 26 teachers of our school, who have a different level of knowledge within the area of sustainable development. Cooperation with the teacher education at the University of Tromsö is expected to give new knowledge through a lecture on sustainable development adapted to educators. The school is planning study visits to schools in Tromsö to learn from their work with sustainability issues and share experience with the staff there. Norwegian Polarinstitutt conducts important research in an arctic environment, which would give us valuable knowledge of our region and its development. Our school wants to visit the research institute, but also take part of the exhibitions in the museum “Nordland Rode Kors Krigsmuseum” in Narvik, since human rights are part of the priority goals of the school as well. The experience of this visit will be spread among the children and youngsters in our school unit and, since we are part of a network for development, also in other parts of our community. We expect to gain knowledge and guidance of how to establish an effective work with the described aims. A common trip could lead to consensus and improved cooperation, as the staff will spend time together and learn from a common experience. Good experience will be spread to schools and other parts of the community, since we already have coordination within Piteå Community. We expect that all work in school, in time, will create a new generation with a greater knowledge and dedication to sustainability issues. We want organic, economic and social sustainability to imbue our activities overall.
