Συνοικοδομώντας μια δημοκρατική και "ανοικτή" τάξη γνώσεων, στάσεων και δεξιοτήτων

The project stems from the European Development Plan of the Akrotiri Primary School (DIMOTIKO SCHOLEIO AKROTIRIOU) and the described circumstances (failure in literacy tests, multicutural and multilingual school population, high percentage of pupils in Special Education programmes, educational reform issues and the emphasis on international educational testing e.g. TIMSS). The teaching staff consists of 7 individuals, relatively inexperienced, who never attended European Mobility Programmes and have limited knowledge on European Educational Systems. There is a great need to participate in educational activities abroad so that the shool needs are met and the european dimension of the school and its staff is updated. The european mobilities planned aim at a better understanding and upgrading of the teaching methods of the participants at the following issues: - combating school failure - maximisation of the productive use of the teaching time - differantiation of the teaching activities so that the lesson is suitable for different age levels in the same classroom - didactics of certain curriculum subjects (language, maths, science) to promote the acquiring of basic skills - leadership and innovation competences for the school's management team - innovative and efficient teaching that promotes creativity - practices that acknowledge and encourage the use of the students educational and sociocultural background in the co-creating of the multicultural - multilingual european classroom The objectives are directly correlated to the EUROPE 2020 EDUCATION PRIORITIES namely the emphasis on creativity and innovation, the emhasis on pupils achieving high standards on basic skills in reading, maths and science, promoting equity and efficiency, the promotion of lifelong learning attitudes and skills and the quality and efficiency in education. The project's school team has already preregistered for two seminars of the Universty Educational Circle (European Diversity Education and Creative Innovation in Education) and is in touch with the Euneos Organisation for Benchmarking courses. The programme of the mobilities responds to the needs of the school teachers and the organisational needs. The experience and the knowledge gained will be incorporated in the school development plan. The planned activities are presented below: - staff meetings - preparation of lessons by the participants (team teaching included) where the experiences gained are involved - lessons to be observed by the school's headteacher - digital library - meetings with parents - conferences with neighbouring schools for dissemination (presentations, workshops) It is expected that the incorporation of the new experiences in teaching/ learning will have concrete results: - improving the basic skills of the pupils in special education programmes - improving the greek language level of the multilingual pupils - improving the classroom environment
