Sing YOURope - Music builds bridges
Start date: Dec 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Sing YOURope - Music builds bridges" is a German-French-Romanian youth exchange from July 27th until August 8th 2017 which takes place in Halle/Saale. 45 young people aged 13 to 17 years, with different social and cultural backgrounds meet to work on a joint creative project. At the beginning of the exchange, interactive and easily accessible workshops about the history of the EU will be offered. Subsequently, the young people can address current political and cultural issues that they care about and discuss them further, such as the current debate on refugees e.g. The active reflection on these topics leads to a deeper understanding about the history and the current state of the EU and foster a European awareness. In a third workshop phase, participants will reflect on how they imagine the future of Europe. They are given space to share their wishes, expectations and concerns. The young people will then be developing a text for a multilingual song about the past, present and future of Europe from what they have learned and discussed. For this purpose a well-known song will be rewritten. Music unites cultures beyond borders and builds bridges. In this project, we aim to create European awareness and build bridges from the past to the future. Our participants shall decrease their fear of foreigners, acquire language skills and train their creativity. The project result, the finished song will be performed in public. Thus our participants gain recognition through an audience and make the project known. To strengthen the team spirit and to get around in the area of Halle, we plan various activities such as an afternoon at a swimming pool, museum visits and excursions. Language animation takes place during the mornings while games which promote intercultural learning are available in the evenings. At the end of the exchange, there is a three-day trip to Berlin, where we visit important political institutions and the song will be performed again. Thus, we reach an even wider audience. We strive to make participation possible especially for young people with fewer opportunities. No one shall be excluded because of their origin, financial situation or for any other reason. To support the recognition of non-formal learning and to show young people their progress, we use the methods of "Learning Badges" (www.learningbadges.eu) and Youthpass.
