SiMigration
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The European migration policy is repeatedly confronted with tasks, which it can hardly handle with the legal and practical tools it is equipped with. This is reflected by the numerous personal tragedies, which we can witness all over Europe day by day. The Problems emerging from Migration are complex and require adequate answers from all political levels of the EU (local, state, federal and European). Although the negative effects of the European migration policy became increasingly visible over the past years, only few political reforms were undertaken. It appears that decisionmakers lack both innovative policies and the political will to implement them. To understand this problem in its complexity, but also to infuse new ideas into the debate on the European migration policy, young people shall enter a dialogue with their responsible personnel from administration and politics. These impulses shall also be heard on the European level. Therefore, groups of around 30 young participants shall work out possible solutions for European migration on the local level after playing a simulation game on the issue. Consequently, their findings will be presented to and discussed with representatives from the state and federal level, to check for their implementability. Finally, the summarized policy proposals shall be presented to the European Parliament through an exhibition followed by a discussion. Through this regular exchange between participants and decision makers, both sides shall learn how to cooperate constructively, and which preconditions are necessary to do so. The participants will learn how to construct their arguments so it is heard and understood by their responsible decisionmakers. They in turn learn, that the exchange with participants opens new perspectives and hence allows for the development of new and innovative policies. On the one hand, the participants will hence learn to understand the European multi-level governance system, while on the other, they will better understand the numerous problems facing the policy area migration. This, in connection with the possibility to discuss their proposals with decision makers, shall lower citizen's opposition against migration and migration policies. At the same time, the project will present innovative ideas to decision makers and will sensitize them for the perspective of young adults.
