In a difficult financial period for our country, the fields that could assist Greek economy by creating new jobs and increased income, are agriculture and tourism. The project of our team aims at the development of agriculture, but can also contribute to the tourist development of our region. The goals of our team are the improvement of the quality and competitiveness of the produced almonds, the contact with new products in the food industry with almond as a basic ingredient and the development of extroversion through trading of a part of our products to the markets abroad. Moreover, the presentation of Greek varieties of almonds in Spain, who has tradition in cultivation, and the publicity of the area of Agia, which could constitute an important tourist destination combining the beauty of the mountain Kissavos along with the delightful coasts of the Aegean Sea. To accomplish these goals it is imperative that our members be qualified in sectors pertaining to all the stages of the cultivation of almonds, from planting of new more efficient varieties, cultivation tasks, until harvesting and after harvesting management of the product. Special attention will be given to the potential of promoting the product to the food industry and to the organization and internationalization of the team through our contact with foreign organizations. 16 producers of almond will travel to Spain where they will visit the following bodies- an association of almond growers, where our members will be informed about the activities, the methods, the cultivation techniques it applies and its organization, from people with experience in the field and will exchange opinions about how all the before-mentioned could be applied to our country- the confederation of agro-food associations of the area which promotes cooperation, contributing to the viability of the sector of agricultural food products.- a food industry which uses almonds in the production of a wide range of pastry-making products like chocolates, sweets, candies- a company, which is occupied with packaging and transporting nuts, where they will be informed about the fields of handling almonds after harvesting them as well as about the marketing of the productIn addition, in the context of familiarization with the civilization and culture of Spain, among other things, a tour of the city of Valencia will be organized.These activities will offer the participants the following things:- improvement of their knowledge pertaining cultivation, for the increase of productivity, the reduction of production costs therefore the profitability of the team- familiarization with new branding and packaging technologies of almonds with quality labeling and improvement of the presentation of the product to the consumer- familiarization with new varieties of almonds that will probably be compatible with the conditions of our area and give a new boost to cultivation- increase in their income and probably a boost towards the creation of new jobs- improvement of knowledge and application of new techniques in the marketing field that will assist exports- briefing our members on the systems of integrated plant protection that are applied with the purpose to minimize the influx of chemicals and the production of almonds that are of better quality, less expensive and environmentally and consumer friendly- adjustment to the new standards of the contemporary European agricultural practices- establishing relationships of cooperation and reliance with the local producers with the purpose of mutual interest- publicity not only of our high-quality almonds, but also of our region as a tourist attraction- familiarization with the Spanish language and culture in the context of the common course of the two countries under the roof of the E.U.The selection of the cultivators will be done according to their knowledge of at least the English language. They will be people who are familiar with the new technology, in order to be able to use it for the dissemination of the knowledge they will acquire and for the practical application of this technology. They will stand out for their open mind regarding the application of new methods of cultivation, the cultivation of new varieties and the use of new more advanced technology. In charge of monitoring the implementation of the program will be the chairman of the team, who is both an Agriculturist and a cultivator. He is experienced in the cultivation of almonds, has visited a number of exhibitions of agricultural products, he is organizational and knows the English language. The materialization of the project will enrich with knowledge and skills the members of the team individually, and the team as an organism towards its organization and extroversion collectively. However, the benefits of this program will go far beyond that, because they will have an effect on both local and regional level, and national and European as well.
