"SICH VERSTÄNDIGEN - DEN ANDEREN VERSTEHEN"- Sprachenvielfalt in interkulturellen Klassen als Bereicherung erkennen, bejahen und unter der besonderen Berücksichtigung des Einsatzes von IKT-Medien fördern
Start date: Oct 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school association is visited by children from migration backgrounds.Aims:Based on room and social changes (different room concept, room conversion, increase of immigrants from south-and east European countries and refugees) we want to focus on the following project aims:- expansion of competence in digital media- getting to know new ways and methods to react to a linguistically and culturally changing society - expansion of intercultural competencies- impulses for further development of multilingualism- getting to know new instruments and suitable ways for effective communication in multilingual classesIntentions:In one of our schools we would like to create a library that allows for the integrated use of media and ICT. In the other school a recently established media room aims to deliver an appropriate and ideal use of the technical and media equipment. Furthermore, we want to react to sociocultural changes by using and expanding the foreign language skills of our staff:Communication problems and language barriers with migrants from South-/East European and Maghreb countries who have lived in Spain, can be minimised by using a common language. Our school has already established a wide range of german language programs. Familiarising ourselves with the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the new arrivals helps us to further contribute to an effective integration. It allows us to increase the possibility of education for all children from an early age. Another aspect of the school's development is the aim to use and support the multilingual resources of our students better while integrating play. Through this we aim to increase students' motivation to learn foreign languages and to develop an appreciation and openness towards other cultures. We also hope to strengthen the self confidence of students from non-German language backgrounds and those who grew up multilingual.Measures:We plan to use 14 mobilities for 5 training measures and 2 Job- shadowing activities. All participants of our Europa School are experienced and highly motivated to participate in an international exchange and join training abroad. We want to profit from the experiences and observations of the job- shadowing programs (Spain, Scotland) by seeing good examples of using the school library, multilingual teaching as well as the use of media with ICT. By attending a Spanish course for advanced learners in the country, we will improve communication with Spanish speakers and be able to provide a 'language club' for the students. Other language training courses will also help us to gain an insight to methods and concepts of effective and interactive language programs in primary schools. Moreover, we plan to expand our media competencies by getting to know ways to integrate the use of iPads as a media for learning and communication. We think of the measure of intercultural learning in Iceland as a cross- sectional task. It should operate as a framework and positively effect the diverse professional and social competencies of all teachers.Preparation and outcome:The knowledge and experiences teachers have acquired will be shared with their colleagues, either in the morning or afternoon, and shall be motivating for their work in respective areas.Through the use of media rooms as functional areas we hope to further strengthen and consolidate the morning and afternoon programs. The students will improve their linguistic abilities and learn a competent and critical handling with digital media. The knowledge they acquire will later be beneficial to successfully find their way in society, which is highly influenced by ICT.As a school we hold an affirmative position towards sustainable integration work, as we value the cultural and linguistic diversity at our school as a precious resource. Our students learn to be open minded and respectful with people from diverse, cultural backgrounds and we assist them to gain tolerance, empathy and openness (or acceptance) towards the other and foreigners.
