The project aims at development and implementation of an operational emission estimation algorithm. The algorithm consists of the following: 1) an operational air quality model to estimate the dispersion and deposition of the ship emissions; 2) an air quality and deposition measurement and model validation system, which will in the next phase be extended to a small measurement network that can isolate the effects of the ship traffic; 3) an operational marine ecosystem model that can separate between the marine effects of different nitrogen species. These models help in assessing to what extent the shipborne atmospheric nitrogen emissions can be measured.
