Shake It Up!
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The VMCM Youth Centre aims to give the local youth a place to meet within a nice environment with secure settings. Furthermore it gives young people an opportunity to learn how to use computers, explore the Internet and use office programmes. During the evening and afternoon it is a meeting-place for children and youth from 10-25 years old. They can come to this place and work with computers, join the cultural program, play a game, listening to music and much more. The 2 staff persons and the 2 foreign volunteers have the task of creating a meeting-place for youth in the City as a non-commercial alternative. Due to ethnic tensions among Slovak, Hungarian and Roma youngsters, it is seen as an advantage to host a foreign volunteer as a neutral representative who could contribute to improve the dialogue and the relations in general. The aim of hosting an EVS volunteer is to create an exciting international dimension for the young people visiting the café allowing them to get a deeper knowledge about foreign cultures, youth in other countries and reflect on their own situation. The EVS volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities and dealing directly with the kids in social activities, working on computers, arranging special events, etc. This way the project has impact on everyone: the foreign volunteers, the children and youngsters, who are visiting the Youth Center, the stuff, who works with them, and also on the local people, because the volunteers live in a small town, where people knows them. This project definitely develops the solidarity and promotes tolerance among young people from different countries and with different cultural background. It fosters mutual understanding between young people in different countries, in different economical situation and cultural habbits.
