SFM in Kaliningrad Pre-study (SFM in Kaliningrad ‘Pre-study’)

The aim with the pre-study was to answer the following questions; How should production and environmental aspects of harvesting, ditching and reforestation be balanced taking into account the experiences based on best practise in Sweden, Russia and other BSR countries?The aim with the 2 phase of the project:To integrate actors in the Russian forest sector into the work of priority area Agri (nine) in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. A baseline is Russian federal level ownership and participation transferred to project level initiatives with so-called Flagship Status.ActivitiesMeetings, seminars and workshop:•Meetings in Kaliningrad to discuss cooperation and activities•Participation in the forestry and water protection network meetings and planning for future common project •Participation in Seminar in Pskov:- Intensive Forest Management- Bioenergy from forests as an integrated part of Sustainable Forest Management.- Information on ongoing projects and project ideas involving Pskov Model Forest•Participation in seminar in Kaliningrad arranged by Hardwoods are GoodThe first preliminary part of the initiative will be included in the Forestry and Water Protection project. The other half of the initiative will be included as regards future cooperation on sustainable production a nd use of biomass for bioenergy in the BSR. Achievements: Study-trips:• Swedish expert visit in Kaliningrad, September 2011 • Sustainable Forest Management with Integrated Harvest of Forest Biomass for Biofuel, Study trip to Sweden October/November, 2011• Cleaning of Drainage Systems in Southern Sweden, September, 2012- Different types of forest ditches and different systems and methods for cleaning.- Methods of reduction of particles and nutrients in water from drainage systems.- Reconstruction of forest wetlands
