Sex, gender and exclusion
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Young people from Europe that participate with ATD Fourth World are in high demand of international exchanges. For many of them, this is the only opportunity they have to meet young people from other countries, other cultures or other young people at all. For several years they have taken more and more initiative and responsibility in the organization and running of these international exchanges. These exchanges were driven primarily by a particular group, which was the engine. This year, thanks to the maturity that different groups have reached, they have gotten together to share their ideas and their desires. Many different ideas have flourish from these meetings. Each group of people has chosen their representatives and they have chosen, among different proposals, from the working group, to deal with issues of sexuality and gender. The objectives of this project, expressed by young people, are:- Citizen participation of disadvantaged young people through different activities: debates, workshops, ...- Fight against social and cultural prejudices, through multicultural exchanges that strengthen European values of citizenship, solidarity and friendship.- Exchange around a theme in a non-formal education context and with active learning methods: from the experiences of young people for further study, reflection in small groups, single-sex spaces for reflection.- The learning process resulting from the exchange organization: preparing and leading discussions, workshops, meetings with other associations, games.- Self-confidence, the ability to better express themselves in public, strengthens young people in their abilities to enter for an active life in society and labor market.-Appreciation in local life of exchange programs for young people from different countries, as well as the Erasmus + program.Young people wanted a meeting that allows to really meet other participants, not a meeting where there are too many people. After an extended dialogue it was agreed that thirty participants will allow that kind of relation. A social mix is essential for us. Our groups are made up of young people from all social and cultural backgrounds, and we will be very careful that there is no imbalance during the exchange. Some participants live together great social distress. All our activities are built together with the groups to make sure they are truly accessible to all.The exchange will take place in Champeaux in Paris. It will focus on intercultural exchange, social diversity and reflections on the themes of sexuality and gender discrimination. From experience, we know that every debate or discussion should be done in small groups to release more timid speech for those who have the most difficulty speaking.Activities will be organized around the ideas and debates. These activities will be organized by young people; others animated and organized by professionals. This time allow young people to meet each other by doing things together. We hope that these activities will have an impact at different levels. Whether at the level of the partners themselves, meet new young people but also strengthen the group by becoming aware of the European dimension of our struggle, the participants will go home and will pass what they have experienced and learned on to other members of their group. At youth level again hopefully multiple impacts, to gain confidence in them by a very active participation in the preparation.Young people will have learned and exchanged things with associations and other young people on the themes that will be addressed. Rendering their accounts enable us to build a youth opinion of the fourth world on themes of sexuality and gender. We really hope that this meeting will allow new young people to join us in our fight against extreme poverty. Youth who participated in the organization of this program have gained experience that will allow them eventually to collaborate in the organization of other events inside the dynamic youth of ATD Fourth World or other, so they can get other young people, who do not have this experience, involved.
