Settle 2.0
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Jean-Jacques Rousseau already in the 18th Century wrote: “Children easily forget, what they have said or what have been said to them, but they don’t forget, what they have done or what one have done to them.” Settle 2.0 is a project, that gives Estonian, Dutch and Austrian youngsters from partly social disadvantaged familiar circumstances the possibility, to collect multicultural experiences by taking part in an international project. Based on the concept of non-formal learning and by using group dynamic, creative and communicative methods, participants are wanted to come closer to the topic of democracy. Youngsters are encouraged with discussions and the possibility of self reflexions to build their own opinions or to strengthen already existing ones or to think them over. The youth exchange lasts eight days and takes place in Tragöß. In this Austrian village is situated our youth hostel in front of the coulisse of the Hochschwab mountains, which offers space for 45 people to stay. The self-catering apartment is especially focused on sheltering groups of youngsters. Therefore there is no risk that neighbors could feel disturbed by group activities taking place in the surrounding woods or at the nearby mountain lake. Enclosed in different activities which are framed with actions animating the participants to communicate, in the course of eight days youngsters work out, what is necessary, to build up a town, in which the basic needs of the residents are satisfied (loosely based on a village from the 19th century). The results are collected and together cut down to the basic elements (catering, raw materials, trade). In groups typical buildings to the different areas will be build and then composed to a town. The participants then work out the functioning of the town, how to sustain the town and the requirements for the development of the town. To point out the long-term results of the project current social media platforms are used already before the youth exchange takes place to install blogs or something like that to allow youngsters to communicate and exchange ideas etc.
