Service Volontaire Européen 2015
Start date: Jan 5, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Theatre de La Girandole places itself in an approach of cultural democratization in order to offer the opportunity: to become an audience member to a diverse range of people; to meet and discover the richness of today's arts and performing arts; and also to have the opportunity to meet with artists questioning themselves about society issues of today. For more than 1 year, the Theatre de La Girandole has been aware of questions related to youth and culture and has been developing works relating to this. With its positive European past experiences (A Grundtdvig project and a European conference about youth's position within the cultural environment) the theatre is looking for an opportunity to continue on this path through hosting a young European volunteer for 7 months. The future EVS will experience a full immersion in our theatre that will enable them to discover the world of theatre, new art performances, audience and performance diversity . This new experience will enrich their awareness of popular education, solidarity and citizen consciousness among the EVS. In order to offer a full experience to the EVS, they will spend time with all the employees of the theatre (communication manager, project manager, technical manager, administration director and art director). All this time spent with the crew will increase the EVS's knowledge of theatre professions and will show them the diversity of each person's role within the theatre environment. - Communication management: how to increase audiences and develop the diversity of audience members? How to communicate events? - Project management: how to schedule events and performances? - Technical management: How to set up and produce plays according to the director’s technical constraints. - Art directing: coming up with ideas, developing them and making them feasible. - Administrative management: how to manage a cultural centre such as the theatre (budget, technical, art and human resources criteria). The EVS planning will be divided into different phases: administration and technical apprenticeship; immersion in the art process; learning the French language, but also discovering time outside the theatre in the daily life if required. Hosting a dynamic and curious EVS with an arts' interest profile would be a great pleasure for us as this exchange will produce reciprocal benefits. Opening our cultural institution to an EVS is an opportunity for us to share with a young professional our exciting approach to producing and publicizing cultural events. Also to share our experience in live performance and our tendency to solidarity and popular education in culture. In return the EVS will fully take part in the daily life of the theatre and will help the team in many ways through their fresh perspectives and shared experiences. The final goal of hosting an EVS is to enable this young European to become aware of the meaning of citizenship through popular education and increasing their consciousness of solidarity. On the other hand this experience will embody benefits for the theatre and all the people gravitating around it: the theatre team, the audience members and the theatre volunteers. It's a chance to discover a new European culture and further more to increase their awareness of European and International cultural diversity.
