Start date: Jul 31, 2013, End date: May 29, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

PROBLEM: The potential of Daugavpils and Grodno historical and cultural heritage - Dinaburg Fortress and Grodno historical centre – is not used in full capacity. Sufficient problems are lack of tourist infrastructure and informational system, and poor qualification of tour guides. Grodno city is the largest centre of handicraft industry in former Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Till today there are no special conditions for preserving traditional crafts and skills, and for transferring knowledge and secrets of mastery to the next generations. There is also lack of information about cross-border heritage: sites, crafts, traditions etc.OBJECTIVES: To contribute to the preservation of cultural-historical heritage and promotion of tourism through the implementation of joint actions. Achievements: During the project, the 1st Coastal Lunette of Daugavpils (Dinaburg) Fortress was reconstructed in Latvia and Grodno Regional Heritage Centre was reconstructed in Belarus.Partners also developed joint heritage identity elements and exchanged experience and knowledge among heritage preservation and tourism promotion specialists. A number of tourism conferences, cultural heritage seminars, trainings and craftsmen plain airs were organised in Daugavpils and Grodno.2 international scientific expeditions were organised with participation of around 300 heritage and tourism experts, history students, teachers and craftsmen from the two countries.
