Seeing and making visible

The intention of our project was to have all partners experience a shared appreciation of relevant artworks and then create new works at each school, using English to communicate with each other. The basis of the project was to instil confidence in creativity as a general human ability and to understand art as a universal language following four main threads:1. Creative and performative approaches to works of art and myths2. Analytical approaches towards chosen works of art in each country3. Practical working on lasting creations in the premises of each partner school4. Developing social skills by common experiences, actions, and communication. The development of visual arts in Europe is regionally and historically linked in many ways. Journeys throughout these cultural areas led us to the realization of surprising connections, with a highly informative impact. The wealth of past art works elated and inspired us to build team-created art pieces as lasting symbols of our EU collaboration.Acquaintances with outstanding works of visual arts in each partner country started with accurate common preparations for our visits. The description and analysis of art pieces after seeing them in museums, churches, a mosque and other public places allowed participants to acquire information about peculiar and characteristic features and also about commonalities. In addition most partners proposed creative tasks, like asking to put up tableaux vivants and short plays and devise imaginary letters or interviews to/of the chosen artists or pieces. The right environment was then set up for students to be motivated to the acquisition of technical terms and various artistic concepts and methods. In these exchanges the range of students’ communicative skills widened and accommodation in families led to deep meaningful friendships. To sum up, we fulfilled the purpose of our project. We widened the horizons of learners, especially of those who have had rare or no contact to art.
