SEDIMENT
Start date: Dec 31, 2008, End date: Dec 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Past projects have showed that measures such as grass strips, grassed waterways, green manure, reduced tillage (no-till farming),... can play an efficient role in the fight against soil erosion. Yet, these solutions arenot widespread. The achievement of a number of measures on a parcel downstream does not have much sense if no measures are taken upstream on the parcels where the flow and the sediments originate. Inhighly erosion-sensitive areas, the abovementioned measures should be combined with small anti-erosion infrastructures. To sustainably solve water and mud flooding problems, an approach at river basin level wouldmake more sense than at parcel level. What is more, the aim should be to achieve several closely related actions that prevent flows, and stock and drain excess water. The same goes for the Vleterbeek valley.
