Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Katelios Group for the research and protection of marine and terrestrial life will host an EVS project in Katelios, Kefalonia, Greece. Four volunteers will come from Finland for 2-3 months and spend the turtle nesting season in Katelios to help with the conservation of the local environment and the environmental education of the local community. They will help with activities concerning the conservation of the nesting habitats of turtles, monitoring nesting beaches and collecting some basic data. They will also help raising the environmental awareness, bringing in their own perspectives from their experiences and confronting them with local ideas. Volunteers will interact with locals and visitors to the area of Katelios, they will develop information to distribute on nesting sites and at the Katelios Group's Environmental Info Centre, they will talk to and possibly educate people about the importance of conserving nature. The volunteers will live in close contact with the local community, among other young people from the local village and with other volunteers coming from all countries of Europe and the rest of the world. They will be followed by the director and experienced volunteers staff in all activities.
