The School of Tomorrow –Shaping Today’s School the European Way project was originated against the background of a Europe in transition. The objective is with the help of various measures to extend teachers’ foreign language competencies and cultural knowledge. International experience and professional development courses on a wide variety of everyday school-related topics but also on the organization and structure of schools will serve to improve the quality of the Hermann Hesse School and to support a process of internationalization. A further goal is to give teachers the opportunity to prepare for the rapidly increasing heterogeneity of the classroom and to benefit from international experience by taking part in various mobility measures.In order to guarantee sustainability, the knowledge and experience acquired will then flow directly into an evaluation of the school curriculum. Teachers are also to be sensitized such that they can enable children and young people to identify with the Europe of tomorrow. A long-term aim is to enrich school-life and educational content with a range of different activities.Objectives:Experiences of school organisation and school structure are to be exchanged at the European level and teachers are to profit from experience with new teaching methods. (Mobility measure 1)Developing foreign language competence (Mobility measure 2-4)Foreign language competence is to be developed in targeted professional development courses at the primary and secondary level.Foreign language competence development and insights into vocational education in the creative handicrafts. Insights into the English school system through direct exchange with a school. Job shadowing. (Mobility measure 5)Familiarisation with new aspects of experiential learning in order to firmly establish in everyday life preventive measures to counter school fatigue, educational failure and premature school-leaving. (Mobility measure 6/7)Qualification in handling heterogeneity in the classroom (Mobility measure 8)Erweiterung der kulturhistorischen Kenntnisse, damit diese in einen Lebenszusammenhang mit den Kindern gestellt werden können. (Mobilitätsmaßnahme 9)Extending cultural knowledge with the aim of better understanding the context of the children’s livesDeveloping teachers‘ media competence (Mobility measure 10)Number and profile of the participantsAll mobility measure will be conducted by members of the school’s management team or its teachers. (11 out of 28 teachers would benefit from the measure.)The need for professional development at the school was analysed in staff meetings. In the light of this needs analysis various professional development courses were chosen and coordinated. Mobility grants have now been applied for.Furthermore staff meetings will take place to develop the school’s development plan. The applicant will provide intensive support and advice on travel and booking.
