Schule im Wandel

Current social changes need to be reflected in the form and content of teacher trainingprogrammes. This project therefore develops a training programme which prepares forthese needs and takes a new approach to the transfer of knowledge.Schools throughout Europe are undergoing change. New curricula, predicated onlifelong learning, have shaken up the school environment and impacted at teachinglevel, but have yet to result in revisions to teacher training. The Consortium wants to use the proposed project to illustrate the changes taking placein schools from various perspectives, address them thematically in further teachertraining courses and thus kick-start a debate at European level on lifelong learningmodels. In doing so, the Consortium has started from the belief that the sustainability offurther training of foreign language teachers depends directly on the degree of focus onvocational content.Recordings made and interviews conducted in ten schools in Germany were taken asthe starting point for describing the change. The films can be downloaded, together withexercises for self study, from a learning platform for further training events. At the sametime, new technologies enable further teacher training in other formats.Similar documentation is to be produced in the other countries in the consortium, basedon the examples on changes in schools in Germany. The Consortium wants to use theproject to kick-start a cross-border debate on ways to promote lifelong learning, combine schools in the partner countries so that they can jointly develop school-orientedteaching projects and promote exchanges and mobility between education systems.
