Sax: opleiding voor volwassenen - Acronym: SAX.OV
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Rationale - English version: Academies of Music like AMWD face a double challenge: on the one hand they are under constant pressure to make their programs run as closely as possible with professional music practice, on the other hand they have to be quite inventive in programming a repertoire that is just slightly lower, in terms of technical requirements, than that of professional musicians. To meet these needs AMWD launches the project SAX.OV. This project will optimize the training of adults in the departments where sax instruments are played and align with new expertise related to Sax and sax instruments, both in terms of musical technique and of repertoire. For expertise that is not available in Belgium, AMWD proposes to rely on two host organizations: on the one hand the excellent Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow), which is an exponent of the hundred-fifty year old British Brass Band tradition, and on the other hand, on the unique expertise with original saxophones built by Adolphe Sax, which is available at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Música "Manuel de Falla" (Cádiz). AMWD proposes to offer a structured training in the two host organizations to those teachers who will be selected for the project SAX.OV. In doing so, AMWD wants to motivate them to excellence, and to transmit their motivation and expertise to their mainly adult learners. In the short term, the expertise gained will be used in the training course of the departments of sax instruments and in the concerts organised by AMWD itself, in media presentations and in tourist activities with great resonance; in the medium-term structural collaboration with professional Brass Bands, saxophone ensembles and opera institutions will be developed. For AMWD, the SAX.OV project not only offers the ability to internationalize its operations, but also to intensify the linguistic diversity intra muros: on the one hand by an "immersion" that will be offered to the selected teachers to prepare their course abroad, and on the other hand by enabling foreign-language fellow students at AMWD, to be language coaches for these candidates. Finally, the SAX.OV project will enable AMWD to increase its management competencies by creating a task force specifically designed for this project.
