Sataedu's mobilities and evaluations in Europe
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The goal of SATAMOVE-project is the competence and qualitative development of the international exchange periods for both the teachers and students from the EQAVET viewpoint. The two-year project is divided in staff (16 each) and student mobilities (85 each). Staff mobility: SATAMOVE -project is a continuation to the Satapromo-project due to be completed in the spring of 2014, where 14 teachers designed a module for 7 study fields from ECVET viewpoint. Additionally, a Learning Agreement (LA) and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were produced. The project evaluates previously developed modules’ quality with EQAVET-tools from the international partner school and international on-the-job training (OJT) site viewpoints. The teachers evaluate the content of the 4-6 credit module in learning abroad -environment (size, relevance, and compatibility to the labor market needs), the content of the LA based on the learning outcomes and the work duties of the OJT site in relation to the content of the planned period. The teachers will develop one new module for the field of study to be completed during the mobility period. The purpose of the project is also to find new European OJT-models to be adopted into Sataedu's study model currently under revision. 16 teachers will participate in the project, all pedagogically qualified and developers of curriculums. The two-week mobility period consists of a week of teaching in the school and a week of OJT at a training site. The results of the project can be measured on several levels. From the teacher’s viewpoint, the project provides critical evaluation of the module from the content and learning outcomes angles, as well as their qualitative development based on the indicators and feedback. Linguistic development is particularly thorough due to the teaching and industry assignments. The hands-on experience in the work environment, possible new teaching methods, and encountering different students all enhance the teacher's professional and pedagogic know-how. As an educational organization, Sataedu gains “audited” modules that match the needs of the European labor market as well as EQAVET-tools for the evaluation of international exchange modules. The outcomes from the project can be measured by e.g. increased international mobility among the students, because Sataedu offers an opportunity to participate in high-quality, audited international exchanges and to complete a part of their degrees at European partner schools in accordance with the ECVET principles. Student mobility: Sataedu began their own self-funded student mobility program covering all the study fields in the fall of 2012. By the spring of 2014, about 75 students have already participated in the mobilities. The mobility process is based on the student mobility instruction, approved at Sataedu in the spring of 2013, with main emphasis on quality guidance and support throughout the mobility period. Based on the feedback from the students, their language skills and motivation have increased, which have, in turn, improved the study results. SATAMOVE-project continues the development by creating an opportunity for the Sataedu students to complete a part of their degree in the European partner schools/companies. The goal is to increase the graduation rates as well as to enhance the student employment possibilities in Finland and in the European area by completing a 5 week study session with partners who know our programs and the evaluation criteria based on our LA The student participants are over 18, motivated in their field of study and goal-oriented. The following fields of study will participate in the project (# of participants): Social and Health (8), Hotel, Restaurant and Catering (10), Metal (5), Hair and Beauty (10), Automotive (8), Electrical (8), Construction (6), Business (6), Audiovisual (10), Footwear (2), and Photography (12). The 5- week exchange period (8 weeks for footwear and photography) consists of the orientation period by the receiving organization, tutoring for the duration of the exchange period, OJT, continuous self-evaluation via a blog, mid-period and final evaluation by both the representatives of the organization and the workplace, as well as the cultural excursions in the nearby areas provided by the partner school. The project utilizes ECVET principles. As of now, elective modules have been developed for 7 study fields in Sataedu that can be completed during an exchange period. The study outcomes for these modules have been developed together with partner schools. Cooperation is based on the MoU that was drafted together with four partner schools and one educational network, as well as the LOI that was drafted with other educational organizations. The content and evaluation of the period has been explained in its entirety in the LA. The mobility period is evaluated using the evaluation criteria attached to the LA and the learning outcomes are transferred using Europass
