Safe healthy and sustainable educational environments : designing the school of tomorrow 6 th European School Student Convention
Start date: Dec 1, 2010,

The 6th European School Student Convention will focus on the theme of educational environment. The event will take place in Dublin, Ireland, from the 3rd to the 7th of December 2010 and will gather around 50 participants from more than 20 countries. The definition of "educational environment" includes a wide range of issues related to both the physical and the psychological factors which contribute to the learning process. OBESSU believes that the environment where education takes place is fundamental for achieving the set learning objectives but also in order to safeguard the health and well-being of school students. From our point of view, too little attention is paid to the factors influencing education and its outcomes and that, in particular, not enough consideration is given to the "less visible" aspects that influence learning and the well-being of school students.OBESSU considers an healthy and positive environment as an important factor to combat poverty and social exclusion in education as well as to contribute to youth employment. An environment with high quality standards, in fact, consistently contribute to the learning process and to the better acquisition of skills and competences. It will moreover foster the personal development of school students. All those features will in the long-run improve the employability of young people. The Convention has, thus, the objective to offer school students a deeper understanding of the topic and aims at developping tools which will serve to improve educational environments throughout Europe.
