The Project is a response to the constantly increasing cross-border crimes related to the circulation of prohibited and strictly limited goods, such as products subject to excise duty, weapons, illegal drugs, waste products, as well as crimes associated with illegal immigration. The priority of this project prepared by the Customs Chamber in Olsztyn and Białystok together with Kaunas Customs Office is better efficiency of Polish and Lithuanian Customs Services. The direct objective of this project is providing additional equipment for mobile units on both sides of the border. This includes communication devices, specialized vehicles, providing software and hardware and linguistic equipment for the two Communication Outposts located on the Polish and Lithuanian sides, as well as holding training sessions and operational tasks. Achievements: Additional equipment of Polish and Lithuanian Customs improved inspections’ effectiveness and conditions. Training sessions and information, experience as well as good practice exchange between partnership organisations substantially influenced effective tasks’ fulfilment by Polish and Lithuanian Customs. The cross-border cooperation of all the Project Partners resulted in obvious benefits not only for individual partners, but also for the entire region. It is anticipated that the Customs Services integration will be a long-lasting process and will contribute to the effectiveness of both administration units, responsible for providing safety for the border zone inhabitants. The long lasting effect of this trilateral project will be equally balanced development of these countries’ territories due to rapid reactions to criminal activities, development of the joint action strategy and reduction of pathological phenomena.
